The Unique Writing Styles of E.E. Cummings - 626 Words

The Unique Writing Styles of E.E. Cummings Edward Estlin Cummings was born on October 14, 1894 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. E.E. Cummings is most noted for his distinct lack of stylistic and structural conformity and was generally self-published for much of his career; it was only in the 1940s and 1950s that his writing became more popular. Cumming’s unique writing style is precise and uses key words to describe parts of his poems. These words are often times words that Cumming’s made up or made from combining two different words. His style is original and he definitely uses metaphors to an extreme extent in a lot of his poems. The two poems of his that use metaphors the most throughout are, â€Å"Somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond† and [i carry your heart with me (i carry it in]. Both of these poems have what seems to be strange patterns and writing styles. In â€Å"Somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond† Cummings writes, â€Å"your eyes have their silence:† (line 2). He is seemingly saying that her eyes hold secrets and that there is more to this person than just the outside, that the eyes hold all the power.
